About the Event

The PGIS Research Congress is the major annual research conference of the Postgraduate Institute of Science. The Congress provides an exciting opportunity to share knowledge and network with scientists from across Sri Lanka and abroad, through the presentation of cutting edge research.

The PGIS Research Congress was initiated to promote and further strengthen the research culture of the Postgraduate Institute of Science (PGIS), which in turn would contribute to expand research activities of the country. After two extremely successful events in 2014 and 2015, the third congress 'RESCON 2016' will be held on the 07th and 08th of October 2016.

As this is a national event, any researcher from any institution and postgraduate students are welcome to submit an abstract to be presented. Presentation of research findings of foreign researchers at the PGIS Research Congress is also highly appreciated. There is no doubt that the outcome of the Research Congress will be extremely valuable to open up avenues for new innovations and collaborations. The PGIS Research Congress was initiated to promote and further strengthen the research culture of the PGIS, in turn contribute to expand research activities of the country. After two extremely sucessful events in 2014, and 2015, this year we will be holding the third congress, 'RESCON 2016'.

Keynote Speaker Prof. Kingsley Dixon

Professor Kingley Dixon is a globally respected scientist focused on ecology conservation. Serving for over three decades as the Director of Science in the Kings Park and Botanic Garden, Prof. Dixon has developed and led a team which has made tremendous strides in the research of functional ecology, and physiology of native flora. He also has had a world-wide impact on advancing conservation biology of ecosystems. Being a strong proponent of multi-disciplinary, collaborative research, Prof. Dixon has been involved in science teams which have achieved breakthroughs in germination, ecological conservation and landscape restoration.

Professor Dixon is an author of over 300 papers, and has an h-index of over 50. He has supervised over 40 PhD students, who presently excel in their respective fields . In recognition of his contribution to science and overall service, Dr. Dixon has been awarded numerous awards including the prestigious Linnean Medal in Botany. Currently, he holds the post of Professor in the Department of Environment and Agriculture, Curtin University, Australia.

Technical Programme

Over a hundred abstracts will be presented in the PGIS Research Congress 2016. Oral presentations will be held in ten parallel sessions while a common poster presentation session will also be held.

Technical Programme

Submit an Abstract

Novel research may be submitted for either oral or poster presentation at the PGIS RESCON 2016. Submissions should include the abstract (for publishing in the Proceedings); the extended abstract (for reviewing); the signed author declaration form; and the completed author checklist.

Accepted Abstracts

Camera ready versions of accepted abstracts can be submitted through the CMT system. The template used for the preparation of the abstract should be used, which is in accordance with the Camera Ready Abstract guidelines.

Accepted abstracts will be presented as Oral or Poster presentations, guidelines are also available for download

Registration

Registration for the Congress provides access to the Congress dinner, printed material including the Proceedings and Technical programme, and lunch & refreshments during technical sessions.

Conference Location

The PGIS RESCON 2016 will be held in and around the premises of the Postgraduate Institute of Science. The PGIS is located centrally in the University of Peradeniya, and is readily accessible through motor vehicle or train.
