RESCON 2023 - Completed SuccessfullyThe Annual Research Congress of the Postgraduate Institute of Science was held successfully on the 2ndand 3rdNovember 2023. The Inauguration Ceremony was held at the PGIS, and the Technical Sessions, which featured 175 abstracts, a keynote speech and 4 pleanary talks.

About PGIS RESCON 2024

The PGIS Research Congress is the major annual research conference of the Postgraduate Institute of Science. The congress provides an excellent platform to share knowledge and network with scientists across the country and abroad through the presentation of cutting-edge research.

The Congress will be held on the 1st, and 2ndof November 2024. The Inauguration Ceremony, together with the keynote speech by a distinguished scientist will be held on the 1stof November.

Technical Sessions of RESCON 2024 will be held on 1stand 2ndof November at the PGIS, and international participants will attend online.

Abstract Submission Guidelines
Abstract submission will start on the 4thMay 2024 and end that on 31stJuly 2024.

Please read the General Guidelines carefully, and make sure to use the templates provided for both the abstract and the extended abstract.

We are committed to hosting the conference in-person and requests for online presentations will be considered under special circumstances, particularly for international presenters.
Please read the abstract submission guidelines below. Since we get more than 200 abstracts for each RESCON, we want to streamline the process so that it is easier for the reviewers.

For RESCON 2024, we will propocess the submitted abstract and make sure they are ready for review process, this will be done by our editorial assistants.

Keynote Speaker

Prof Kosala Weerakoon

Prof. Jennifer Perera

Prof. Jennifer Perera completed doctoral studies in Medical Microbiology in 1986, became a Professor in Microbiology in 2001, and held the position of Dean and Chair Professor in Microbiology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo. She has completed a PG Diploma in Medical Education and Women’s studies from the Universities of Dundee and Colombo respectively. She has also completed an MBA from the University of Wales. She is a fellow of the Sri Lanka College of Microbiologists and the National Academy of Sciences of Sri Lanka.

She has trained and examined undergraduates for 40 years and postgraduates for 32 years. She has served on numerous committees related to curriculum and examinations in the Faculty of Medicine, Colombo. She was an active member in the re-orientation of the medical curriculum that was launched in 1996. She has been an active member of the curriculum development and evaluation committee for over 20 years. She has reviewed medical curricula of over 10 countries that had applied for recognition in the Sri Lanka Medical Council including site visits for some.

She pioneered the use of Molecular Biology for the diagnosis of infectious diseases in general and specifically tuberculosis in Sri Lanka. The drug susceptibility of non-tuberculous mycobacteria was another aspect that was studied extensively. Drug resistance of other bacterial pathogens including, S aureus, S pyogenes, S pneumoniae, Salmonella, and Enterobacteria spp were studied both at the phenotypic and molecular level as these have created challenging issues in the clinical management of patients. She has supervised over 20 MD dissertations and MPhils, supervised 5 PhD Students, won NSF research awards and Presidential awards for more than 12 years, and contributed as a resource person in many research forums. Have won numerous awards for best oral and poster presentations in scientific sessions locally and overseas. She has other research interests including women's health and career development. Medical education is another area of interest and has conducted research on improving educational achievement of students. Her current h index is 30, i10 index is 53 and have 4771 citations. She has contributed as a member of numerous consultative meetings in relation to infectious diseases, health, research, women’s health, and education most of which were held as consultations leading to policy and/ or action plan formulation.
